What are the ingredients in Equal “blue”?

The Equal “blue” sweetening ingredient is aspartame, which breaks down in the body to components commonly found in milk, meats, fruits and vegetables. Dextrose with maltodextrin is added to make the very potent sweetener easier to measure and pour. 

Are Equal “blue” and aspartame (the sweetening ingredient in Equal “blue”) safe?

Yes, Equal “blue” is safe. Aspartame, the sweetening ingredient found in Equal “blue,” has been documented as safe in more than 200 objective scientific studies. The safety of aspartame has been confirmed by regulatory authorities in more than 100 countries, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada, the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Food, and experts with the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization and World Health Organization. This product contains phenylalanine and is not recommended for individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU). 

Does Equal “blue” have an expiration date?

Equal “blue” has an indefinite shelf life if stored away from heat and humidity.  To ensure the highest quality product, all Equal products are now produced with a “Best By” date stamped on them. The “Best By” date will be three years from the date of production.

Is Equal “blue” safe for people with Diabetes?

Equal “blue” is appropriate for use by individuals with diabetes. It is well-tolerated by both those with insulin dependent and non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 1 and type 2). Equal “blue” is recognized by both the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) as an acceptable part of a meal plan for people with diabetes.

Equal® Yellow

What are the ingredients in Equal “yellow”?

The sweetening ingredient in Equal “yellow” is sucralose. Dextrose with maltodextrin is added to make the potent sweetener easier to measure and pour.

Does Equal “yellow” have the same ingredients as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener?

Equal“yellow” uses the same sweetener ingredient (sucralose) as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener. Sucralose is made by a multi-step process that starts with ordinary table sugar (sucrose) and replaces three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms. This results in a stable sweetener that delivers a taste profile similar to sugar, but is calorie-free.

Does Equal “yellow” taste similar to Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener?

We’ve formulated the new Equal “yellow” with the same sweetener (sucralose) as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener.

Are Equal “yellow” and sucralose (the sweetening ingredient in Equal “yellow”) safe?

Like aspartame, sucralose has been the subject of more than 100 scientific studies. The safety of sucralose is well documented and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, along with international health and food safety organizations, have confirmed its safety. Sucralose is approved for use in more than 80 countries and can be found as the sweetener ingredient in more than 4000 food and beverage products.

The Equal “pink” sweetener ingredient is saccharin – which has been available for almost 100 years. Other ingredients are added such as, dextrose with maltodextrin, cream of tartar and calcium silicate to make the product easier to measure and pour.

Does Equal “pink” have the same ingredients as Sweet ’N Low® zero calorie sweetener?

Equal “pink” uses the same sweetener ingredient (saccharin) as Sweet ’N Low® zero calorie sweetener.

Does Equal “pink” taste similar to Sweet ’N Low® zero calorie sweetener?

Equal Yellow

Pure Via™ all natural zero calorie sweetener

What is Pure Via™ all natural zero calorie sweetener?

Pure Via is an all natural zero calorie sweetener made from the pure, sweet extract of the stevia plant. Its main sweetening ingredient is Rebaudioside A, commonly known as “Reb A,” a high-purity extract that is the sweetest component of the stevia plant. The purity level of “Reb A” ensures that Pure Via has a crisp, clean taste, without the bitter taste associated with many stevia-based sweeteners.

Are Pure Via and its main sweetener ingredient, “Reb A” safe?

 An extensive library of more than 85 studies of “Reb A” and other components of the stevia plant supports the use of “Reb A” in tabletop sweeteners and other products. Additionally, the other ingredients (dextrose and cellulose powder), which provide bulk to Pure Via, are also safe for this use.
